Between you and me....Lincoln!

Great movie. Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln was superb, but I thought Tommy Lee Jones stole the movie with his performance of Thaddeus Stevens, a powerful member of the House of Representatives. The way he took down other members of the House with his wit was hysterical. There was also several scenes with Day Lewis that were very emotional and powerful. The part where he talks to his wife about how much he was affected by the death of one of their sons was amazing. Some people might think of the historical Abraham Lincoln as this stoic person. But from what I read he went through enormous personal tragedy. I'm sure he put up brave front, but who knows how much turmoil and sadness was in him. I thought that he was portrayed brillantly in the film. Joseph Gordon Levitt played his son Robert Todd. He had some really good scenes, but was not in it too much. I thought Sally Field did a tremendous job as well playing Licolns wife. Usually I'm not too much into historical films, but this one was a pleasant surprise. I'm glad I watched it. What? Typhone?(Sorry the post seemed too serious, so I had to put a inside joke in)

Reaction to some of The Hobbit scenes:Enough!!!

I didn't like the last of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The return of the King. (Why didn't that stupid giant eye turn into something?!) so I did not know what to expect with the Hobbit. All I can say about the film is...meh. I will not say its horrible. The scenary was once again amazing, and there was plenty of funny oneliners and moments as well. But man some of the scenes just dragged on for so long. Like where all the dwarves are at Bilbo baggins house or hobbit land to plan out their adventure to go and recapture their mountain place that was taken over by a dragon. The scene would just not end! Baggins says no I won't join you guys, wait a second maybe i will, oh I'm not gonna join you guys this is my home, then finally he says oh, okay I'm in. What?! Then the scene where magneto is talking to Dracula(I don't care what their characters names are, I don't have time too look it up. Actually I do, I just don't want to put their names.)It's not a epic movie, but I'll probably watch the next one which will heavily feature the dragon, which will be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch of Sherlock fame. So I hope that will be interesting. (It's the same reason i watched those stupid Matrix movies, cause I was expecting some grand payoff. There was none. the first one was cool, but that trilogy was a complete waste of viewing time) Maybe I'll try reading the Hobbit to see if I can appreciate the next film. But we shall see my friend.

Arise! Guradians, arise! That's a pun man!

Rise of the Guardians was a visual feast. (Hahahaha, visual feast. Ah, man I'm so funny) Pretty cool animated film centered around childhood favs like the Easter bunny, Saaaanta, Tooth fairy, Sandman, and Jack Frost. They do battle with the Bogeyman or as callled in the film Pitch. I don't know, some people might say to me "You went to see that movie?" Well, I like to try watching different types of films, if its entertaning, and keeps my mind away from the nonsense that goes on in the world, then why not? Honestly though, this is another film like Wreck it Ralph where it really appeals to all ages. It's from the book series, so I've already requested one title, so will see how that goes. Also it was cool that there was an actual major somewhat holiday movie coming out this year. Merry Christmas.

Skyfall, let the skyfalll, something, something, skyfalll...

I was never really into the Bond films before Daniel Craig took over the lead role, but he, and the cast, crew do a damn good job on the screen. From the beginning there is plenty of action, alot of witty, and not so witty one liners, and just overall a an exciting experience. Javier Bardem as the villian is classic. His facial expressions alone are priceless. There was some worry in recent years that the films would stop due to financial concerns, but thankfully that did not happen. Daniel Craig just plays the charcter right. He's not a jackass trying to act tough, he just does what he has to do to get the job done. Also its always fun to see the hero and villian repartee with each other(Ha!thats a funny word...with) I think this will defintely become one of the classics in film history.

oooofffff! Wreck it ralph!

This was a fun and cool movie. It helps if you are into old video games, but I think it appeals to all ages, just like alot of disney movies do. There were such video game icons like Ryu from streetfighter in the film, and also not so much icons like Q-bert(Why?! and they gave him/it a substantial part too!) So it centers around a video game character called Wreck it Ralph, who is a bad guy in a game called Fix it felix, but wants to be a hero. So he invades other games to do that. The actors who did the voices were cool, except for Sarah Silverman. Sorry, but theres is a balance between being annoying and really annoying. Anyways it was cool that at the Arclight they had classic arcade games setup like donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, even Fix it Felix. I play like garbage in these games, but its still fun. In closing all I got to say is: "Oh my lands!"(hahaha, still gets me.)

Cloud Atlas, not bad man!

You know even though it has had some mixed reviews, I thought Cloud Atlas was an inventive and engaging film. The film consists of six stories related to each other, some set in the past, present, and also the future. Throughout the film scenes would shift from the past to the future, and I thought this was all done seamlessly. The acting was superb, also the scenery was amazing. The one story that kind of got on my nerves was the post-apocalyptic one where Tom Hanks plays a tribesman called Zachry. At times the dialouge was incomprehensible. "Are you telling me tru-tru?" Anyways, the film is quite long, but it didn't feel like it. It may not be your cup of tea though. "MMMMMMMM, tea."

What's so Sinister about it?

I have mixed feelings on the movie Sinister. Although I thought there were pretty good creepy scenes in it, I thought some of it was laughable. Its about an author who moves into a house with his family where a murder of a family occured. He discovers some film reels that show the murder and others as well. So he tries to figure out if this pagan deity named Baghul( I guess I spelled that right, but who cares) is behind these murders. I don't know, the name Baghul itself is pretty ridiculous. But to kind of sum it up, and not give anything away, there is a scene that my buddy who saw it gave the funniest line. "Way to fill those plot holes Baghul." Hahahaha. Ah, thats too funny. Also there was a scene where the author(played by Ethan Hawke) becomes unhinged, while arguing with his British wife, that was pretty ridiculous. "Enough!" (Thats the second time I've used the term "pretty ridiculous" I sense a pattern) Anyways the soundtrack was pretty cool, but watch it if you want to. That is all.

I was not Taken back, by Taken 2...(Woo-hoo hoo)

Taken 2 was an pretty good followup to Taken. It was pretty much on par with the first film. I would not say better, but it defintely was exciting. Liam Neeson is just an awesome and cool actor. Ever since Darkman from way back, he has been one of my favorite actors. The film starts a little slow, but picks up with chase scenes, witty one liners, and overall action. What surprised me, and I don't know if anyone else felt this was how much of a family movie it was. Of course there was lots of kicking butt by Neeson, but the moments bewteen his daughter and ex-wife were heart felt. It just goes to show you that yeah you can have plenty of action in a movie, but also have tender moments as well. I just don't like it when those moments are overdone and add nothing to the film. I think thats where you have to applaud the acting of Neeson, although his charcter will do anything to protect his family(including lots of shooting, stabbing, breaking necks, etc) he's not afraid to show that he loves his family. Maggie Grace who played his daughter, also gets into the action throwing grenades and such. Shes a pretty awesome looking woman who gets into alot of the action. It's fun seeing his family get into the action as well. Go watch Taken 2, and see what Liam Neeson does best, if you don't he will find you...

Looper did not throw me for a loop(that was good one)

Despite Joseph Gordon-Levitts eyes looking confusing, this was a pretty cool and entertaining film. The plot centered around JGL playing Joe a hitman(A looper) who basically gets paid to kill people sent from the past through time travel. Far-fetch plot? Sure, but thats what makes it fun. Jeff Daniels plays a mob boss. He played that role very well. It was pretty cool to seem him and JGL(yes, im gonna keep using his initials) on the same screen again. Remember the Lookout? Excellent film by the way. Even Bruce Willis was tolerable in this. There were some slow parts, but overall I thought the acting was convincing and the special effects were nicely done. Now hopefully this film, will make more than Dredd! I still can't believe it did not make more money. Anways, Loopout!

Dredd was not dreadful(Wow, pretty lame title post)

I watched Dredd in 3D! yesterday, and it was an action-packed visual thrill ride. My buddy who watched it with me made a great point, that most of the scenes were pretty much shot in one location. Probably cause that saved them money for all those visual and special effects they did. Karl Urban did an impressive job as Judge Dredd. His deadpan humor really fit with the movie. The villain Ma-Ma was pretty cool too. It was played by Lena Headly(she plays Queen Cersei in Game of Thrones) See it if you can. The Soundtrack was amazing as well.

Favorite movies of the summer...

Some cool movies came out this past summer, of course to kick it off was The Avengers which I thought was a real fun movie to watch. The Hulk was awesome! I also liked Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, although I thought the ending left alot to be desired. Nothing like the book. Batman was cool. To be honest, Bane's voice is what did it for me. It was too hilarious. "What a lovely, lovely voice." Hahahaha! Spiderman was good, but the beginning was a little long-winded discussing his origin and all. Premium Rush to me was the surprise of the summer. It was fun, cool movie to watch. However it didn't do so hot in the box office. I have no doubt its gonna be one of those cult favorites when it comes out on dvd. Can't forget The Expendables 2. The scenes with Chuck Norris and the old western music playing were priceless. Arnold was funny, even with stiff lines to Stallone's charcter like "Who is he? Rambo?" Wow, you really had to include a line that referenced a past movie character he played huh? I can't wait for some of the fall movies coming out like Taken 2 (yes theres a part 2) and also Skyfall. It was a good summer for movies, there were some duds(Total Recall, man if that just put that scene from the original with Arnold saying, "See you at the party Richter!" I don't care if didn't fit with the remake, they should have have found a way!) Snow White and the Huntsman(Go away Kristen Stewart) Anyways, maybe this blog will become a movie review one. I'm watching Dredd tommorrow, so will see.

I'm dreaming of sushi right now...

Yesterday, I saw an insightful and beautifully made film called Jiro dreams of sushi. It revolves around a sushi master named Jiro Ono who has this small restaurant in Japan that is renowned for its sushi. At times the film was a little repetitive, like when describing the different kinds of sushi, but overall it was cool to watch. The film also talks about how his eldest son, Yoshikazu will eventually become the heir apparent. One of the best scenes I thought was when the son would go to the fish market, and its pretty huge by the way, to pick out the fish and other items to make sushi at the restaurant. It shows the different vendors and their personalities. Its like a whole other world. I think that's why I liked this film so much, because in a way it was an escape for me. Most films should strive to do this for the movie goer. That is to engross themselves so much into the movie, that he person feels a part of it. That's how I definitely felt with this film.

Cool, another post...

Wow, two days in a row. I'm impressed with myself. Heh,heh. Okay I want to recommend a place that I have been telling everybody. A buddy of mine told me about it, and I remember the former football coach of Tampa bay and Oakland Jon Gruden talking about the place on tv once, raving about how good their chicken sandwich is. Can you guesss the place? It's Chick-fila. And their Chicken sandwich is really good and healthy too. Also their chicken tortilla soup is amazing. i know that its a chain that is primarily in the South(you guys over there are so lucky) and unfortunately there isn't too many in the los angeles area. Anyways i hope they will expand into the San gabriel valley. That would be so cool. So check them out. They are closed on Sundays(which I think is pretty awesome) They got a pretty cool site too with a bunch of merchandise and personal stories from patrons. I can't wait for this friday cause i'll be having some of that delicious chicken.

I gotta post more often...

I'm gonna try to post more often, but we shall see. Anyways, I'm glad that Andrew Zimmern is exploring American cities on his show Bizarre foods. I caught a bit of last nights episode in Seattle, it was pretty cool. The landscape there was amazing. I always like how he tries to talk about how communities can help sustain themselves and others in need by growing food locally. Some people think his show is just for the shock value of eating "strange" things but I think its more than that. I like that he is giving a broader message to the public through his show.
